Signs Your Door Is Done
- Permanent cloudiness. Years of Columbia Basin hard water etch minerals into the glass. Past a point, no cleaner on earth restores it — our hard water guide explains why.
- Leaks at the frame or sweep. Water on the floor after every shower means failed seals, corroded frames, or a door that’s dropped out of alignment.
- Rollers that jump the track, hinges that sag, or a door that has to be lifted to latch.
- Corroded, pitted frames — especially gold-anodized units from the ’80s and ’90s that date the whole bathroom.
Replacement Without the Remodel
Here’s the part homeowners are happiest to learn: you don’t need to touch the tile. We remove the old unit, grind off the old silicone, clean and prep the surfaces, patch fastener holes, and install the new door on your existing tile or surround. The bathroom you have, minus its worst feature. Many like-for-like swaps are measured one day and installed within the week; upgrades to frameless glass add fabrication time.
Upgrade or Match — Your Call
Replacement is the natural moment to upgrade: curtain to tub door, framed slider to barn-style, builder-grade to frameless. It’s also fine to simply match what you had at today’s quality — a new framed door in a modern finish is a $400-something fix that transforms the room.
Replacement Cost
Like-for-like framed replacements typically run $400–$900 installed, including removal and haul-away. Upgrades price the same as new installs of that style — see the full cost guide. If your glass broke and the opening is standard, ask about expedited scheduling when you call (509) 355-6999.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you replace just the glass and keep my frame?
Sometimes, if the frame is sound and parts are available — but on doors more than ten years old, frames and rollers are usually near the end too. A full new unit typically costs only modestly more and resets the clock entirely.
Will removing the old door damage my tile?
No — careful removal is most of the job. We cut sealant free, back out fasteners, patch the holes, and clean residue. Your tile stays intact.
How fast can a broken shower door be replaced?
Tempered glass shatters into pebbles when it fails, so this is usually urgent. Standard-size framed and bypass units can often be installed within days; custom glass takes 1–2 weeks to fabricate.
Is it worth replacing a shower door before selling a home?
Usually, yes. A corroded, cloudy door is the first thing buyers notice in a bathroom, and a few hundred dollars of new glass photographs like a remodel.
